This week on Plugin of the Week we look at a fantastic little plugin. The Simple Share Buttons Adder. Here I will be reviewing Simple Share and showing you, step by step, how to install and activate it on your WordPress website.
With the Simple Share plugin you can quickly and easily add share buttons to all your posts and pages.
This is a great for getting your posts and blogs shared through social media platforms to increase traffic to your site as well as growing your name and brand.
What I find great about Simple Share is the customisable aspect. If the share buttons don’t match with the design of your site you can change the look of the button, but the best part is you can create your own by visiting make.simplesharebuttons.com
Now I will go through the steps on how to install and customize it.
First things first, Downloading the Plugin
To download the plugin we first need to go to Dashboard->Plugins->Add New
From here go ahead and click on the install now button on the Simple Share Buttons Adder. As you can see I’ve already got it installed, it’s that good!
Next Step, Don’t Forget to Activate it
I know, I know. How could anyone forget this? However you would be surprised how easy it is to overlook such an important step.
If for any reason you didn’t activate it from here (as you can see in the Image above), don’t worry. You can also activate from your Dashboard. Go to Installed Plugins and you can activate it from the list.
So Many Settings
Don’t be over awed by the many customization options available here. It’s laid out very well for you to personalize it to the look of your own website.
To find these options go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Share Buttons
The first page you see here is the Core tab.
From here you can choose what pages you want the buttons to appear on, simply click on the locations you want them to toggle them on/off.
Placement lets you set whether you want them before, after or both on each selection. Except the homepage where it will always be at the top.
With Share Text you can write what text you would like to accompany the buttons.
Networks lets you drag and drop which media options you want available to share to. You can also change which order you would like them in.
Oh and don’t forget to save when you are happy with your changes. I have highlighted the save button in the image above.
Now we will get into the more in depth options. I’ll go through each one with you.
The image set lets us choose the look of the buttons. Don’t be afraid to experiment here to see which style suits your website theme
You can also change the Button size in pixels.
We can also change the alignment to left, right or center.
The Padding options lets you change the spaces around each button.
This section of the styling tab is all about changing the font and colour of the accompanying text you set with your buttons.
You can also change the size of the font, the weight and where you want the text placed in relation to the share buttons.
Of course this is all only relevant if you have set custom text from the Core tab.
Here you can make a custom area the buttons will be placed in. The padding is the size of the area around the share buttons.
You can also change the background and border colours as well as the border width.
The Rounded Container Corners gives a nice rounded effect to the container.
If you decide you don’t like the look of the container and want to get rid of it just click on the boxes and delete the text.
Lastly we will look at the Counters tab.
Here you can add counters to show how many times your content has been shared through each media platform.
The counters are a nice touch but just be aware they will slow down the loading of any pages with the share buttons added.
Well that’s it for my first installment of Plugin of the Week. Hope this helped and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to leave a comment or Contact Us on our website.
Check back next week for my second installment.
Oh and don’t forget to share 🙂
